Thinning and baldness are common among women throughout different stages of life. Especially as women age their rate of hair growth slows. The two main causes of natural thinning are linked to heredity and hormonal changes.
Heredity
The most common cause is called male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness. This condition is typically defined as a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair in women. Genes from both the mother and father can affect the likelihood and rate of thinning and baldness. Heredity will also affect the age at which you will start losing hair the rate of hair loss and the amount of loss.
Hormonal changes
Your body’s natural hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss as well. Women experience hormone changes regularly throughout life, including during pregnancy, childbirth, and the onset of menopause. Stress and a poor diet can also cause hormone changes that lead to hair loss.
